What is a test?

Measurement of the psychological attribute occurs when a quantitative value is assigned to the behavioral sample collected by using a test

Construct

Psychology is traditionally defined as the study of behavior and attributes which characterize an individual's behavior in home, work, school, or social settings are commonly called "psychology attributes" (or psychological traits). Unlike physical attribute, the psychological attributes of an individual cannot be measured directly as can height or weight. Psychological attributes are constructs. They hypothetical concepts - products of the informed scientific imagination of social scientists who attempt to develop theories for explaining human behavior.

Definition of measurement

Weitzenhoffer (1995) described measurement as "an operation performed on the physical world by an observer." To Stevens (1946) measurements was "the assignment of numerals to objects or events according to rules." Lord and Novick (1968) and Torgerson (1958) enhanced the precision of Stenvens' definition by noting that measurement applies to the properties of objects rather than to the objects themselves.

Test theory

Whatever exists at all exists in some amount. To know it thoroughly involves knowing its quantity as well as quality.

E. L. Throndike, 1918
